I've been out of EQ for about 6 months and played this during a free friends and family free trial invite period. I have to say I was quite impressed. I thought the change to fire core was pretty significant. Went from having a, what, 65% fire focus at level 5 to a 90% focus? That's pretty nice. I had a couple of 80K+ crits last night in raid without a bard and only T3 group sleeves at the time (though I shortly thereafter won some T1 raid sleeves...

I think instead of an armor set we got our low level focus quests (broom, stein, etc).

If by hotkey you mean item click effect, then yes, that's correct. I'm pretty sure you can have multiple hotbar buttons multibound, but only one of those can be an item click (and it will be the last one).

Infected Paw. Sorry, I think it used to be called just plain Splitpaw long ago before the revamp, so that's what a lot of people are just used to calling it. Or maybe it's just because it was filled with splitpaw gnolls. Regardless, I don't think I had ever actually heard someone call it infected paw.

The rk 1 spell is no trade (and requires pirate faction). The rk 2 spell you can buy off researchers (and I've made and sold many copies of that spell myself). If you want to grind faction for it, you need Katta faction, not pirate faction.
