If I remember right from the testing I did, the pets do indeed backstab from any direction, but they will do more overall DPS from the mobs back. Just like any other pet / pc does. A backstab from the back is more mdg than a backstab from the front, hit for hit.

Its been asked for in the past, but the general answer always given has been "we don't want to make it to easy to dps with pets, you need to have to position the pet if you want to do max damage". Basically they can but they don't want too.
