Pet now gets smoked on Gribble HAs

Post by Gandaalf »

Took a few months off and recently returned only to see my air pet now gets eaten by Roon/Bloodsucker other named. Normal team a few months ago was:

All subbed accounts-
105 Mage
105 Wiz
105 Chanter
Merc healer
2x merc wiz

Had zero issue taking out Roon or Bloodsucker or other CoTF early named. Pet almost never went below 50% and I often cycled in RS pet as it popped. Frenzied and all that good stuff.

Fast forward few months and a few things changed:

FTP
105 Mage
100 Monk
Merc wIz
Merc wiz

Subbed
105 Bard
Merc healer

Pet now gets shredded when engaging with this crew. Does the chanter slow/cripple make THAT much of a diff over bard slow? I have to swap in a support healer to make it work as well as use all cool downs imaginable. Even with all that it's still spotty. I thought maybe I was just losing the DPS race swapping monk for wiz, but pet is shredded like 30 secs into fight

Were there any pet mitigation changes I missed? Or is it just a bad string of RNG fails?

Thoughts?

Air pets are exceptional against one mob at a time due to their stun. However they also suck something fierce when it comes to more than one mob because their innate mitigation and avoidance is terrible. Also yes, there was a pretty big nerf to pet power awhile back.

If you plan on having your pet tank you need to switch to the earth pet. It has a lot more HP's, better mitigation and avoidance. Also make sure your focus item will actually help your pet. Last week I was chatting with a level 105 mage with an EM4 item. Trying to be helpful we went to Neriak 4th gate and got him the earring off Mass of Spite; surprisingly his pet was a lot beefier. Also for your FTP accounts make sure your gear isn't prestige as this gear will function as basic cloth armor with no stats/focus/etc. This is true of pet focus effects as well.

I can't speak to cripple but it may be worthwhile to run a few tests. I do know some mobs mitigate slow pretty well but I haven't parsed cripple so all I can really offer is conjecture.

Here's a parse. Dead Hills against A xulous elder. Even con mob. EM16 pet with only burnout rank 2 and surety rank 2 from my merc. No weapons or other buffs. Yes this was painfully slow to watch but at least we have a baseline defensive parse.

and on that same note. My daughter woke up early....just in time for a double pull. Normally I put a gargoyle on one mob while my earth pet tanks the second. Anyway my merc was on reactive. Pet had burnout2 and surety2. Two dark blue Zombie Excavator's against one pet.....pet died when the first excavator was at 90%.

I use my 101 air pet on gribbles all the time and never have a problem with the pet tanking, even when I pull 3. I have EM23 focus, but shouldn't make that big of a difference. I use 2 healer mercs, not sure if people are using just 1?? My beastlord pet can tank just as well. I did have my pet die to bloodsucker somehow. I was tanking with my 102raid geared SK and wasn't paying attention, somehow my pet was not alive at the end, didn't even notice it died lol. But I think the pets are tanking great personally.

Yes, having two healer mercs makes a monumental difference. Using a second healer is probably an easy solution for the OP (wizard mercs kinda suck anyhow), but the many Mages who aren't boxing will have a very different experience from you, micker.

What Sancus said.....

I do have a 91 FTP shaman available if I wanted to box. However since my boxing skills are subpar I prefer to solo. However I will admit that if I'm boxing and doing nothing more than have the shaman on autofollow and his A3 cleric merc with him the gribble missions become a breeze. Granted they take awhile but there's no chance of death unless I pull more than 5 on purpose. Yes you read that right, 5 is my limit with two cleric mercs...the 91 apprentice 3 merc on balanced and the 105 J5 merc on reactive. Granted at this point I'm having to help my pet survive with every trick I can use but it's possible.

I challenge you to put your EM23 away and use a EM16; you and one merc and run through one of the gribbles. Feel free to use dimensional armor if you wish (I do when possible). When you get a triple pull have fun.

So I survived a triple pull....and used all activated possible AA's to survive. Triple pull with only fortify and FBO....thank goodness I had my gyrospire relocation device hotkey'd.

Out of curiosity do any of you sift through defensive parses? In theory there's supposed to be a DI1-DI20 for each mob which of course mean there's 20 different amounts a mob will hit for. I know somewhere in there are runes (iceflame procs, aegis, etc.) that reduce the amount a tank (or pet in our case) is hit for. Being a silk class we can expect to be hit for the DI18-DI20 most of the time. Our pets however should be getting hit for the DI1-DI5 most of the time. All this I understand.

What I'm confused about though is when our pets get hit with 25 different amounts. Is there an easy way to figure out what are the real DI1-DI20 hits and which ones are the reduced hits because of iceflame/aegis runes? Also how much damage do those things reduce? Does Prism Skin completely block two attacks regardless of how hard the mob would have it or does it simply reduce it a set amount? I'm trying to sift through Alla's and Lucy but no luck figuring it out so far.
