new stuff
Re: new stuff
I wonder if Eli can make an aa that will shorten the cast time of all spells during a certain time frame to a single number. We could go all burn if each cast was almost near instant for about 30-45 seconds and would pair very nicely with ITC. It's along the same lines as Calebe's chained FR but it's less damage than that. I'd prefer some sort of chained FR over faster casts but faster casts is a good alternate if they can't make a chained FR work.
Re: new stuff
Why not just a simple AA that say has a 30ish minute reuse timer on it that for 2 to 3 minutes allows us to do quadruple our spell's base damage. That wouldn't disrupt the group game much if at all, and for a raid it pretty much means it will be back up by the time you get to the next raid boss (basing that on how long it is roughly between events in Convo these days). We know they can make sure an AA already (it's no different than 7th is or a glyph)...
Re: new stuff
Sven, in SS raid there is no trash mobs at all. The longest part is waiting on the loot and sometimes zoning. So 30mins would probably make u miss out on 1 event currently per use. Granted that isn't the new expansion, but maybe a 10 to 15 minute timer would be better.
Re: new stuff
Allow me a (returning) noob question regarding our raid dps, are you keeping the main tank under the Surge DS line or is that too mana intensive in a raiding situation ? And, if yes, is the damage done by Surge counted in our total raid dps ? Of course, I am aware that parsing programs cannot add damage shield damage to the person who casted it (at least they didn't three years ago), but is that taken into account in one way or the other ?
Re: new stuff
During a fight, no you wont be casting a DS on the tank. Takes up too much time and mana. I am not sure if it is taken into account or not, but when it comes to parsing it only matters what shows up under your name.
So yea DS is a nice form of dmg. But no it wont be wise to use during a fight (only before hand), and it doesn't show up for your name so no1 will know about it.

Re: new stuff
Depends on the event. In HoT The Library we usually have cast it on all the tanks when we pull the books during the silence phases. I guess our guild is a bit different from most as we have 4-5 mages in every raid. DS parsing does not credit the mage who casted it. DS dam is counted as total raid dam credited to the tank that the DS is on. IN normal events, casting DS and the resulting damage would actually be a DPS reduction so it is actually quite situational. The spell itself is not the least bit mana intensive.Adonhiram wrote:Allow me a (returning) noob question regarding our raid dps, are you keeping the main tank under the Surge DS line or is that too mana intensive in a raiding situation ? Re: new stuff
Another problem with the DS is that it is dependent on how long the tank can stay up. It doesn't do very much if the tank dies in the first 2-3 rounds as they don't even get half of the counters that way. It is very good as a pre-buff going into a fight but is not so great once the battle has started because of upkeep and the likelihood that the tank is gonna drop before the 40 counters are realized. Now, if your guild can keep the MT up without trouble, it would make for a great DS rot but it's gonna take away from your direct dps and there is no wear off message which makes the rot very inefficient unless the MT is watching the counters to send a tell.
Re: new stuff
I see a good trend towards positive ideas for increasing our Raid Burst DPS.
What mechanism or class representative do we have these days for getting the ideas to the DEV's as well as feedback regarding what the DEV's are receptive to versus the things they will not consider?
I think it is time to send them a message or risk loosing the opportunity.

Re: new stuff
Right now, until Piestro revisits the Community Rep program, is to PM a dev. I and a few other mages have had spotty returns from the devs. I have had good luck with my PM's to Elidroth and Ngreth. Ngreth takes awhile to get back to me since, obviously, he has a lot on his plate. Also, Crystilla, while not a mage, has had good luck with passing our thoughts along to the devs. Before sending a PM, we should probably cull the data and keep it very short and simple (think like Twitter hehe).
I have to head to campus to hand in a lab report but, when I get back, I'd be more than willing to send in a PM to Eli with some of our ideas and to ask him if he's actively working on trying to find us a fix. I could probably ask him of the odds of getting a fix before next expansion. Pretty much, that would mean in the next month or two since their beta prep is just around the corner.

Re: new stuff
Ok, here's what I pulled from the thread. Please let me know if I missed anything or got it wrong (completely wrong, some stuff I had to modify because of multiple suggestions or additions). I'll be updating the list from the main forums too but I'm almost 100% positive all the ideas on eqlive made it to this thread. EDIT: Everything from EQLive was already mentioned in this thread.
Unlimited hits for shock of many (or maybe just increasing how much each hit does)
Base shock of many on pc's on the target's hatelist rather than pets.
A time-based forceful rejuvenation that allows us to bypass the recast timer for a set period of time. 30-60s (in a pm to Eli, we should just ask for a flat 60s hehe)
Magic based version of spear on a separate timer from the fire based spear.
Increased damage to nukes via a fire core-like ability or a similar aa that boosts all nuke dmg by a certain amount.
An ability that decreases cast times to near instant for a short period of time; or, conversely shortens the recast of spells.
Increase the damage of all nukes and reduce recast times.
I specifically left out dmg amounts so that those can be up to Eli's discretion and I think we should mention a timer (inflated, of course) for Calebe's FR because I can see them only wanting to give us 2-3 ticks of that.
