Sorry if I take again that example, but do you remember the Great Pet Patch ? It was exactly that same mecanism but applied to tanking ability instead of dps output. All pets got an improve of damage mitigation, AC etc. But mage pets got the most out of it. We need a Great Pet Patch 2.0, but on the dps side.
That is not entirely accurate. The 'Great Pet Patch' was during the SoF expansion. It did not just increase tanking, it also did increase DPS out-put aswell.
Are you sure it was during the SoF expansion ? I can't find the related patch notes for it, and I vaguely remember this taking place pretty earlier. However, I found this in the patch notes July 13th 2005 :
- Increased the innate AC bonuses granted to level 66+ pets by focus effects.
- Increased the melee damage bonuses provided by pet focus effects on level 66-70 pets.
Wasn't this what on the old boards was called the "Great Pet Patch" ? It indeed upped also the damage output, but the main excitement was all over about tanking and about the relative boost air and earth pets got in the tanking department compared to other classes pets. Have we totally lost all material from the old boards ? Would have been nice to dig into the debate the Great Pet Patch brought on the forums and what points were raised regarding pets and mage class.
Pets got their biggest increases during SOF. I am about 95% sure of that because pets weren't all that great in TBS which iirc was the expansion before SOF. I don't really remember any big debates either, it was more of a rejoice because pets were increased.
This was also when fire pet got a substantial boost and then a nerf because of his aggro.

Yes, on TBS, pets were not that great as it was the typical issue us mages have with expansions which don't bring level, increases. Mobs become stronger, hit harder, pets get toasted. I rememeber doing the Solteris access missions with guildies, pets could barely tank in those horrible snake temples
No biggy if we have lost info about the Great Pet Patch. It's just the old boards contained very useful informations about the way pets tank, I remember some graphs and statistics which were posted and were very interesting.

Well, either way you look at it, whether you bump up spell dps or pet dps the mobs will die quicker so by your logic of mob dying quicker = increased tankability, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to the pet.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm all for more nukage. The 10:5:5 you suggested sounds good, though we need more than a 20K boost IMO. My whole point is that I don't want to get to the point where my DPS output is 98% nukes.
That 20k was for THIS expansion. And actually at the high-end if we got an actual 20k increase, we would burst 60kish with a bard. So that isn't too far off from what we need, we did not get anywhere near a 10k nuke increase though.
And, if we got a nuke increase it is a more EQ-player friendly increase because wizards get the samething. That is why Savil and I have been preaching nuke increase because they have shown they have nps with increasing nuke power, they are hell bent on no pet stuff because of trolls on EQlive.
The Fire Core increase was a mini-let down for me. It hasn't been as much of an increase as I would have liked, mainly not seeing those big nukes that I thought we would see.

I like this idea!
Elemental Multiplication: "A burst of elemental power tears free from your companion, assaulting its victim with a wave of mini elementals." or something along those lines. Might have better luck getting that one by as an AA instead of a spell.

As I recall this was an aa in SOD beta, one that didn't make the cut. I tested it and it seemed to work fine. I forget what the name of the aa was though.
Pets spawning pets actually never did "correctly" work. It had a bug and in trying to fix the bug it broke completely. They ran out of time to fix this and they never mentioned how much code support they needed for it. It is a terrible idea because you just run into more push issues. Now, remove push and it's a fantastic idea. Will make us max out x_many way more often.
I'd love to see pet push/player push removed. It could open up utility spells and aa's for npc placement for all classes in the future, as well as broadening the horizons for fresh new spell and aa lines specifically for magicians. The poll results for the removal of player/pet push were far from what Elidroth expected, however the majority was for its removal. Perhaps they will move towards this change with the coming expansion, though I'd prefer to see it much sooner.
