I dunno. There are some players in my raids that I would prefer a merc for the very reason that they seem to be unable to read and follow directions, or are just simply lazy and/or afk half the time.

That situation is not restricted to raids either

Not even an insult really.
If I need a drop from a certain named and I am able to kill it either solo or using my merc, you better be a good friend before a lot of people will drop their merc and have to roll on loot.

Then there is the no AFK on merc heals which trumps uber raid geared and bored healer every time.
