Now perhaps I misunderstood and he wasn't actually recommending the chain over the plate, but that's just what he happened to have at the time for those two pieces.

What he happened to have I would guess
Elegeant Defiant Plate Greaves AC74, HP360 Shield 2, Avoid 2
Elegant Defiant Plate Gauntlets AC49, HP238, Avoid 1

Plate > Chain > Leather> Silk

Ok, sorry for the miscommunication. I recommend getting what's out there that won't make you cringe. Normally I choose:

1. Elegant defiant plate
2. Elegant defiant chain
3. Elaborate defiant plate
4. Elaborate defiant chain
5. Elegant defiant leather

in that order. If you want to really nitpick some people might tell you to get the elaborate defiant plate for the extra attack rating but all in all the elegant defiant chain is better (in my opinion at least) than elaborate defiant plate in regards to gearing up our pets.

Disclaimer: This gear order is for level appropriate pets. If you do not have the SoD pets the above order may change for you. Make sure you check lucy and enter your pet's level to figure out if elegant is really better than elaborate or even intricate gear. Hate to break it to you but your Child of Wind just will not equip elegant gear at all.

Oh, legs are spendy because they have the detrimental spell haste and they're also the second highest AC and HP gear in regards to visible gear (breastplate being the highest, but it has no focus effects).

Setting up in buyer mode is probably the cheapest way to get it. Some people still sell in the bazaar. Whenever I have room to loot, I know I loot them and just tribute them rather than filling up my trader with that junk.
