pets

Post by benhan »

yay first post

lets hope the devs listen to me and some other mages in the "tunning" of HoT for pet focuses to be back to type 3 or easier to get in UF they were way to hard to get.

Lets go one step further and hope they tune pets properly without a pet focus, and with one to be even better, and yes by all means no more earring that is ultra rare where 3 classes all vie for the same item. Augment is the way to go for pet focus.

Making them type 3 augs will not solve the ease of acquisition. They were easy to get in SOD because they were the result of completing missions/raids, on the same level as getting certain spells, and not because they were augs. If all they do is make them type 3 augs and still make em drops off rare drops off mobs as they are in UF, then you have solved nothing.

Svenalo is saying that you can make the focus a type 3 aug, but that doesn't automatically change the availability of the focus. With SoD if you beat a tower raid that unlocked the EM 7 focus aug in the void for anyone on the raid. You beat one tower raid and all of your pet classes could then easily buy the aug and get EM 7.

They could, however, just as easily make the aug a drop off the raid mobs. Then each raid you would have a CHANCE of the aug dropping and then ONE person from the raid would get it. It's a type 3 aug, but just beating the raid doesn't automatically grant you one. You have to win it just like any other raid loot, much like the earrings in underfoot now.

The perk of doing it as an aug isn't automatic availability, it's the fact that you can transfer it from one piece of gear to another. You can upgrade your gear without having to worry about losing your pet focus (assuming they make them so they CAN be transfered with a solvent like most augs).

I think it's implied quite heavily that a return to the type3 aug system would come with non-RNG accessibility. The rarity is the issue, not the piece of gear it comes on.

The piece of gear it comes on IS an issue if its not an aug. An aug can go in multiple slots. If it is on a different piece of gear, and then in another expansion they change slots and now its on a different slot, you can run into the annoying issues of having to swap things in and out to make the pet, or lose a different focus you want, etc. This is why for years we lobbied for focuses being assigned to specific slots, and finally got it a couple expansions ago. Now we have fire on sleeves, magic on the hat, pet focus on the ear, etc, etc. Prior to SoF this was not always the case...in GoD and OMM the pet focus was on feet, in Depths it moved to waist, in TSS it moved to the range and sleeves slots (depending what item you got), in TBS it moved to gloves (where it hadn't been since Luclin) and the ear, and since then in SOF, SOD, and UF it was on the ears with the addition of the type 3 augs in SOD.

If it is not going to be on a ear, it needs to be a type 3 aug. And an ear needs to have tiny companion.
If it is not going to be a type 3 aug, it needs to be on a ear, and tiny companion needs to be on that ear with it.

That's what we fought to have, that's what it needs to remain, it's that simple. Backpeddling is not an option.

Also, while you may think something is heavily implied, it needs to really be spelled out in black and white - Devs can easily overlook implications and justifiably say, were the request simply made as "we want it on type 3 augs", that they did exactly as was asked.

I think it's been spelled out pretty clearly to them that the issue is rarity, not slot placement. Personally I'd welcome it added to a visible slot (Rasper suggested bracers).

I was referring to the comment that making it a type 3 aug implies the issue is rarity.

Also, adding it to bracers probably wouldn't happen because necros already have a focus on wrist. Beasties, Necros, and us are in the mix on this...and they way they do the focuses, all 3 have the effect on the same slot. I am sure it isn't a technical limitation that makes it that way; it is likely just cut'n'paste.

It's a moot point. They know the problem is rarity :P
