At 744 Spell Damage
Bolten of Molten Steel – 1*9/7 = 1.285714285714286
1.285714285714286 * 744 = 956 Damage
Savlo of Many – 1*9.8/7 = 1.4
1.4*744 = 1041.6 – 1041 Damage
Rain of Blistersteel – 1*16/7 = 2.285714285714286
2.285714285714286 * 744 = 1700 Damage
Rain of Scythes - 1*16/7 = 2.285714285714286
2.285714285714286 * 744 = 1700 Damage
Spear of Blistersteel – 1*12.5/7 = 1.785714285714286
1.785714285714286 * 744 = 1328 Damage
Spear of Molten Magma - 1*12.5/7 = 1.785714285714286
1.785714285714286 * 744 = 1328 Damage
Fickle Magma - .167*(6.75 – 1) = .96025
.96025 * 744 = 714.426 – 714 Damage
At 570 Spell Damage
Bolten of Molten Steel – 1*9/7 = 1.285714285714286
1.285714285714286 * 570 = 732
Savlo of Many – 1*9.8/7 = 1.4
1.4*570 = 1041.6 – 798
Rain of Blistersteel – 1*16/7 = 2.285714285714286
2.285714285714286 * 570 = 1302
Rain of Scythes - 1*16/7 = 2.285714285714286
22.285714285714286 * 570 = 1302
Spear of Blistersteel – 1*12.5/7 = 1.785714285714286
1.785714285714286 * 570 = 1017
Spear of Molten Magma - 1*12.5/7 = 1.785714285714286
1.785714285714286 * 570 = 1017
Fickle Magma - .167*(6.75 – 1) = .96025
.96025 * 570 = 547
I found this to be exceptionally insightful. I wish I would have wandered across this thread earlier before I began my own research this week.
Attached are my current results parsing out Iron Bolt Rk. III utilizing the CoTF T1 Raid Focus (47%-100%) in all instances, on a Model Paza (Level 95) dummy. It gives more variability (resists, focus variance, etc), however it also gives me a more accurate representation of how it will impact me in situations. My setup is very simple. No buffs - at all.
The formulas quoted above were exceptionally relevant. The formula for spell damage given by the above poster for Bolt of Molten Steel is identical to the Spell Damage formula I derived for Iron Bolt Rk. III through trial and backwards calculation. I also have the critical damage coefficient as well (4.3684) that seems to predict max crit values as they scale with spell damage for Iron Bolt Rk. III.
I also have a decent statistical breakdown included with each parse, including a 95% Confidence Interval on the Mean. One large problem i'm having here is that even with 3000-4000 data points, my confidence interval for population mean is not going below a variance of almost 1,000. That partially explains why my Mean % increase PPSD (Per Point of Spell Damage) is fluctuating.
The questions that i'm still wondering here is, does spell damage scale the same with and without focuses? I can parse that easily enough. Also, why would the non-crit PPSD coefficient be 1.286ish, but the critical coefficient is 4.368? Is there a comparable ratio that will work across all spells for crits? Also, given that my base crit chance unbuffed is 58% (12,000 data points), shouldn't we be calculating in critical percentages as well when evaluating spell damage? Such as, (Non-Crit % * 1.2857)+(Crit % * 4.3684)? This gives me a valuation of 3.07 consistently per point of spell damage in actual testing.
Any thoughts on how to proceed, or data you would like? I'm kind of working my way through the beginning of this process, so any insights you mages may have would be quite valuable.
