So how much can we nuke for now?

So for a very long time in my EQ career I was mostly with the same guild, a single group worth of players. I was pretty much the main DPS since I was usually a few levels higher than everyone. We had a wizzy, but since she was usually as spell tier below me we nuked for about the same.

Fast forward to now and I've joined a new guild and gotten to see what a level 85 wizzy can do. I watched a guildy wizzy pop twincast and then double crit a nuke for a combined 120K damage. I figured that was probably about the most he could do in one blast, but it still absolutely floored me. 120K? In one shot? Holy crap!

I've just hit 81, I certainly don't have raid level focus yet, and my crit AAs are nowhere near maxed (been focusing on pet damage AAs). My question is under ideal circumstances what's the most we can nuke for in one blast these days?

With 2nd spire running, a bard playing poet and talendors, just a crappy 45% group foci, no type3 aug, and a paltry amount of spell damage, an 85wiz can get close to 80k out of fire eth (rk2). With 7th or PD/SD running 120k out of a twincast would be about ground floor. On a raid wizzy expect to see much higher.

With my crappy 55% group foci, bard playing poet and talen, type3 aug, an average amount of spell damage (120ish), I can get almost 30k out of a bolt crit (rk2). Yeah there really isn't much comparision, but then again we got a few dps upgrades with UF and they got group lev and beam of displacement.

The biggest *boom* I had so far (Bard singing for me, First Spire, Fire core running and having a Flames of power proc (Do FC and FoP even stack?) and probably a druid's epic on the mob) was 37,359. Im equipped with an 75% focus up to level 80 (so basically, 71.25% remaining at max). Spelldmg was about 150 then, possibly a tad lower.

So, with a better focus to max level, there is still some room for higher crits, but I think those are the one-in-a-thousand lucky-crits :) We mages are doing good, though. All mages of our guild show up in the parse between ranks 1 and 6 regularly whereas our wizards are still trying to break into the parse, themselves :)

Hmm, well i think the norm is that wizzies are still wiping the floor with most everyone these days at least in the short term (we'll see after the new raid weapons start appearing). However, the RS AA's that we got are the biggest bonus our dps will see this expansion, and we as a class did in fact campaign for our pets to be a bigger factor in our dps (which i agree with). Not as many sexy booms with our nukes maybe, but the parses should support us when we are in full burn mode...now if we only had @!%$!@$ harvest...

I still beat wizzies in straight up fights (no 7th, no glyphs so it's a level playing field). Mages are doing just fine. We don't get showy nukes, but never underestimate gargoyles and our pets. On any given fight, as long as it lasts 2 minutes or more, there's no reason mages can't find ourselves at the top of the parse.

And Redius is high end guild, and I'm lower end, and still agree on this. As long as the fight has any kind of length to it, mages can do quite well.

Below is a parse from our raid group (Hard mode Rott). A rogue from a end game guild showed up to take the top spot from the mages ;)

Mages are pretty popular these days. Yesterday we had 8 main mages on raid. We own our parses. :D

Thats pretty cool. My guild has only two active mages at this time, plus occassionally a third one.

Ok, seriously..wtf? What are you using Zac? Group makeup? I don't have the evo stone and the best I get, if lucky, is a chanter in my group so I only average about 5.5k. I've hit 7k but it's rare and not consistent with events. I weave the same lineup with the same strat as everyone else, have tower arms, head and bp, tier 5 group legs, max spell dmg aa's (except the new UF ones), hell, I even still use the OOW BP to get that extra oomph yet I still can't seem to break a 5.5k ballpark average with any set consistency. The only dps aa I'm missing is the host aa's. Is it just that I have the worst group makeup ever?
