I've a few questions about this spell
How often does it proc, is it often enough to make it worth keeping up on a pet? Also, does it only effect your pets target, and does it work if your pet isnt tanking?

Its a defensive proc so only has a chance to proc on hit. It procs more on PC tanks then your pet, but if your soloing, extra damange is extra damage.
If your in a camp where your pulling more then 2 mobs then definitely use it.

You won't see huge damage from this spell, but rk 2 only costs 458 mana to cast before any preservations are taken into effect, and the proc does 469 (with a -100 fire resist modifier). This makes it very mana efficient spell in terms of damage/mana. Even if you only get 10 procs you're looking at a 10:1 damage/mana ratio, which is very good, and you're likely to see much better than that.

This is a fantastic spell line, and under-used, from what I hear in the ether when listening to various Mages.
633 damage and it fires "a lot". I constantly use it, and when it fades I have a voice trigger tell me "Pyroshroud Master". (He also tells me how great I am.)
What does a lot mean? I don't know. I have spell particles on and see it proc quite a bit. I keep it up on MT on raids, groups, and on pet solo. It's cheap, as Merl says it has a killer DPM, and (the best part) it is very cool.
Great flavor.

I use it all the time also. Whether my pet or another toon is tanking, I try to always have this spell line up on them. When tanking with my beast, I see it fire several times minimum per fight. It can also crit which also happens a lot. Great pre-fight buff.

I would say dont do this on raids if all your spells land. You will do a lot more DMG with you nuking then casting this on the tanks. However, when fighting super resistant mobs (IE; Hanvar) it would be a viable option I would think.
