Attenion Top Mages
Re: Attenion Top Mages
I remember the discussion that a mage pet was nothing more then a visible dot. Scarey in the extreme. What was worse some who played a mage bought into it for awhile. That we must void. The trolls as mentioned are the ones to watch out for. No matter what you ask for, they will say immediately you have to much already (unless their class of course). So ignore them where possible, be polite. Be precise, but don't back down, but say why we need this and that.
During beta we had a great spell, and Koz pushed ot get it nerfed and it was, and it became and is still useless. Was it over powered? I didn't get a chance to test it before the nurf to know, but you don't work on the assumption it is over powered. You work on the assumption it is smurf good, and say why. If someone says why it is and the devs say they may change it, suggest ways to make it smurf useless even if changed from the currentl form. You don't ask for a nurf, you ask for specific suggestions to improve the spell or lower it if they are thinking of changing it. You don't say nurf it and not have specific suggestions on how to 'change' it. The calls for a nurf will come from others, and then we make suggestions how to still make it useful before they impliment any change at all.
Proactive, not reactive. Do not ask for a nurf, ask for an upgrade. If you see something is way over powered, think headshot, think bloom, and ask the question again. If you think it still is, wait with valid suggestions for the devs to make a comment and then voice them. If it is glaringly over powered then speak up, because it maybe a test of the devs and make a valid suggestion to make it smurf useful and not nerfed into oblivion. Lets not be our own worst enemy this time.

That fantastic spell was Surge, believe it or not. It was fantastic. Amazing. I expected it to be tuned down.
Instead, what happened was that Kozvar unilaterally went to the developers and called it over-powered and asked for them to nerf it. He didn't say a word to the community, didn't build a consensus. He simply went over our heads and did what he wanted to do. Then he hand-waved his reasoning with his usual verbal diarrhea.
Can you imagine the Necromancers doing that about Death Bloom? No. Instead, when a call of "Nerf" came in for that spell they rallied behind it and got Elidroth to change his mind. Go take a look at the eqplayers class forum for Necros and watch them work the message until they got what they wanted. And, it is a truly extraordinary spell.
Why would a Class Correspondent who also happens to be a Mage do something so stupid? Because he was an idiot. In this beta let's make sure we speak our mind, and if we have a Mage correspondent who won't bother to read this forum and participate, just ignore him and let the community work.

Good thinking, The devs never increase things in power after release, only nerf.
Lets just try for the most powerful things, and fight for the power. If we win, its a great expansion, if not - have we lost anything?

Baramos said it well. That is exactly what happened and his claim, well they would have changed it after (maybe they would have changed it or tuned it down), we will never know. It got changed into something 100% worthless. We can't have that happened again. We need to discuss as a class, and decide what is best and push for it. Push for 2-3-4 ideas or more is fine. Look forward, not back. Leave nurfs to the devs. At this stage we have no idea who will be in beta. I am not parser I hope some will be like Wire was and post tons of data. I hope those that do that are in beta, and yes we all know you can't say if you are, or aren't. Still you can post here with nothing specific and just comment on threads and see which way the board is going and voice that in beta when it happens.
Some of us will be, some won't. We do know that those that go to fan fair are in beta, or always have been, and they can post when back what they learned from fan fair not the beta. As long as they are on this board and reading it, we know the sugestions we have will get to the devs. This is no secret and all the boards know those who go to Fan Fair or are a class corrospondent will be in it. So we know our suggestions will get through. I just ask you bring all, those you agree with and those you may not if consnsus is for the devs to know it. We can't ask for more then that, or to know any discussion till after if allowed. We want to respect the NDA and work within it for the betterment of the mage class.

Re: Attenion Top Mages
Odds are he had the spell nerfed because he was afraid of even more mages finding a way to put it to good use and put an even bigger gamp between them and him on the parse.
Spoilers: he was a sucky mage /end spoilers.

He's blacklisted from this upcoming beta consideringBaramos wrote:That fantastic spell was Surge, believe it or not. It was fantastic. Amazing. I expected it to be tuned down.

A. he is not a good mage
and
B. he doesnt even play eq except to pop in occasionally now
If he tries to give any feedback in thules beta it will be our job to point out how worthless his input is.
Re: Attenion Top Mages
So we now know that you are DEV Faloresince you have the power to blacklist people.Falore wrote: He's blacklisted from this upcoming beta...
I have only been in three BETAs but the way it seems to work from my perspective is that certain people are on the SOE short list and they get in BETA early. Some people even get contacted directly by the DEVs when SOE wants feedback.
Yes the BETA forums exist, but there are certain relationships out there that give some people a greater voice than just your average BETA poster. The names and relationships do change as players and DEVs move on and some people loose or gain favor, however plase let me know where the people on this board get the power to decide who the DEVs let into BETA or not.
I am not standing up for Koz and his nerf last BETA. I agree that we should ask for the stars and settle for the moon by letting the DEVs nerf abilities, not the mage community asking.
