You should be standing next to pallo anyway. If you are too far he pulls you in and all that running around decreases dps. I usually hit autoattack I'm so close. You have to be nearly in melee range for AD anyway so might as well. Unless there is a nasty ae or dot at melee range, I'm usually sitting just out of melee range (wild ramp and all).
Range for pet dmg is funky. Normally, I have to be close, but there have been times that I was beyond casting range (max range wihout being debuffed) and still seeing my pet dmg messages. /boggle
Parse help
Re: Parse help
Yup, which is why it has always been advisable that a melee character run parses. Your spell dmg display is centered around the mob and it's quite a large range, so you can be a good distance back and get credited. However, in the same token, if you are the parser and is standing a good distance back then you will miss more than half of the dps (particularly the melees). To get things accurate for everyone you must be in melee range of the mob you are fighting.
On Pallo, since I typically run the parse anyway, I just turn on auto attack and melee too while I'm there. /woot for that extra 10dps.

Re: Parse help
Well the problem with Pallorax is I try to stay outside the Screeching Fury AE range (25'). But of course I get tossed around at some point, and then when I land I immediately nuke from there and then slowly move my way back toward the mob during refresh times.
With all the stops and starts and killing portal mobs and such it isn't the best parse mob, but we rarely do Rottrued anymore.
