What to bother with?
What to bother with?
Well, returning to my old characters after RL has kept me from EQ for a few months. Decided to hop back into mage and level him to 80 with my bard / new necro which I'll start next week.
Going ahead and using my old monk to quickly boost the mage to 80 (Can't do it for bard due to them being same account, sadly).
However, one thought keeps going through my head: "I'm going to miss certain spells"
So, I figured I'd quickly ask - are there any spells in the lower tiers (pre 75?) that I should bother buying/farming? He'll probably be frozen at 80 for some time (at least until I get all 3 chars to 80 and geared a bit), so figure he'll be using 75-80 spells mostly. Just want to make sure I don't miss something obvious / important.
Thanks

(1) Prime Symbiosis Rk. II
(1) Rancorous Servant Rk. II
(1) Aegis of Kildrukaun Rk. II (still the best of that line til today)
(3) Annihilate the Aberrant Rk. II
(3) Scorching Sands Rk. II
(3) Searing Skin Rk. II
(2)Summon Prime Armaments
(1) Eidolic Guardian Rk. II
(1) Bolt of Molten Dross Rk. II
(1) Burnout VII Rk. II
(2) Lavaskin Rk. II
(1) Core of Air
If you want to stay a while in that range, from 76 to 80 I would rate it that way: (1) musthaves, (2) shouldhaves, (3) very helpful. The others as you can get them.
From 70 to 75:
The precessors of those ranked (1).
I don't remember of any of those spells pre 76 to be useful lateron still.
If you are going to powerlevel throught, just those you can fetch in bazaar or at spellvendors.
The only one would may be: lvl 71 "Muzzle of Mowcha". Its researchable and can be found in bazaar if I remember well.

Mostly, the answer is no based on your PL'ing your character. There is only 2 considerations and they are:
Level 44 Spell – Primal Remedy (pet heal) – Quested at Gunthak - http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=2342" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Level 51 – Scintillation AE PB Spell – FV/OT turn in quest – Turn in a few spell scrolls to get this. Random outcome. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=422" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Otherwise spells needed are at your Guild, or at various outposts like the Oceean of Tears, the Overthere and FV, the PoK Library merchs and after that turning in Parchments, runes, etc. You can get by on the regular spells. There will of course be pets that can only be gotten through research so start doing online research for those pets and what is needed and find yourself an in-game researcher to help. If you know what those spells are, go to the bazaar NOW and start getting them to bank them until needed. Otherwise you can likely get by as a PL'ed Mage.
Re: What to bother with?
As far as must have pre-75 spells go, there are a few:
Velocity - Pet SoW. Not an absolute must have, but it's the best pet SoW we get and can be helpful, especially for quickly killing lots of weaker mobs where the travel time starts to eat into your effiency.
Summon: Sphere of Air: Summons a clicky fixed duration invis item that can be used by others.
Summon: molten orb: Summons a 10 charge clicky nuke item. Poor damage/mana ratio, but can be clicked during spell recast for some extra damage. This isn't on the same recast as the summoned ice clickies, so handy to summon before large fights.
Call of Hero: You know the drill
Rathe's Strength: Aura to increase the damage of nearby pets. Only a marginal boost to burnout for the main pet, but great for swarm pets or group pets.
Banishment: Completely destroys a summoned creature. It consumes a star ruby and you get no xp or loot, but might be helpful in a pinch. I'm honestly not sure if this even works on higher level mobs and I haven't used it in years (last used by me in the PoJ trial of execution), but you never know.
Summon: Talisman of Return: Summons a clicky port item to port you to PoK. Consumes a quintessence of knowledge when clicked (not when cast). Handy if you set your bind location to somewhere in BFE. Can also be given to others.
That's all I can think of offhand. There may be others, and obviously some of the above are optional, but if you're looking for pre-75 spells that might ever be useful, those are all I can think of aside from the obvious ones (veil of elements, bind, gate, etc).

Re: What to bother with?
banishment is capped at like lvl 46 or lvl 50 mobs. You can "banish" all those mobs with a single DD now.
It was a good idea though
