ZOMG, where'd you come from Jedis? Where you always an admin? There are tons of changes to the forums (filter disabler, new codes, board rearrangements, etc.). Not sure when all these were planned but thanks a ton! Some really good changes around here

Heya

I posted a hello on the mod forums, so I will abbreviate what I wrote in there

Just wanted to say hello. I've been playing EQ on and off since March 1999.

I've helped out with EQ in various forms over the years. From helping way way back in the Luclin beta, to being a Beta Guide in PoP, being promoted to Beta Senior Guide for many expansions, to being a Senior Guide in the Guide Program for about 6 years. I'm no longer in the Guide Program though. I missed the customer service part of it that was eliminated.

I play EQ as much as I can, time permitting with college, of course. I'm going to Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, for a major in Computer Science. I volunteered to help out with the boards since I love this game so much. Hopefully, we can keep these forums going for many years to come. I hope to be able to add to the forums, via mods and updates, over time. I have full admin access, but it appears you cannot upgrade the forums or add mods (that I can see) with phpBB3 like you can with vBulletin. I need ftp access to upload files. For now, I did go ahead and make a full system backup of the forums, so I have that on hand if it's ever needed. I found a mod that will automate backups, but do not have a way of installing it currently. Also I found some mods that will help fight spam. Perhaps over time, I will be able to get ftp access to the server, if the owner will trust me enough to do so.

I try very hard to avoid the impression of being a power-hungry admin that is hell bent on world domination, unlike other board admins I've come across over the years. I'll gladly take advice or suggestions from anyone on this board. These boards are for everyone and not just the staff.

To answer your questions:

Yes, the HoT forums are locked until launch. I was just getting everything ready. Launch is around midterms, so it's a lot easier to just hit the unlock button vs setting everything up. I have a bad habit of procrastination when it comes to studying and doing homework, so I wanted to remove the temptation of needing to get the boards ready. The Spells/AAs/Pets under HoT just link to the other main ones, which is why they do not show as locked. It looked weird without having them there, so I made them links.

I didn't change the spam filter. It's set on whatever it's always been set at... I can consider lowering it, but I think that would benefit the spammers more than the members! (I pruned the members database and it deleted nearly 1,000 accounts last time I checked. These were people that did not post at all, or posted spam and were banned by the mods.)

Some of the new forums seem a bit redundant. Do we really need separate forums for Pets and HoT Pets, Spells and HoT Spells, AA and HoT AA? Even quests could be condensed, after all how many posts are made there that aren't current content questions? Having all the extras is just cluttering up the page.

PS: Seems like only admin and mods can start threads in the suggestions forum, or i'd have placed this there.

They're not seperate forums. The ones under HoT are links, except for Quests / Progression for HoT and Player Housing.

So what's the point of the links? You can literally scroll down one inch and find the real forums right there. People aren't going to look at half of the site and give up because they don't see the pet/aa/spell sections, they'll just scroll down further

Point taken. The HoT section looked rather... empty... without the other forums. I was just making a link for the lazy Went ahead and removed the links and the suggestions forum should be fixed now!
