Hotkey Swap of items

I am not sure if this is appropriate for this forum. The forum may be intended just for UI replacements.
As I also play a bard, or used to a lot more in my past, I had to swap out instruments all the time (my bard time as before bandoleers).

This information is a copy of something I posted on my guild's message forums. It allows you to swap items out of a back pack into a character inventory slot without having to open you Inventory (I) screen or any bags.




The one disadvantage is that for each item you want to swap out, you need to leave a Character Inventory Slot open, in other words, one less bag to store your gear or loot. Fortunately for me as a mage, and there are other classes, If I begin to fill up on loot, I can summon 100% weight bags for the day.

Here is a technique I use that I learned from an old bard friend I met back in 2000.

Lets define some things.

Character Inventory Slot - One of the 8 slots you store a backpack

Hot Key Bar - The button bar with 10 Hot Keys, there are 4 possible Hot Key bars, 2 horizontal and 2 vertical.

Hot Key - One of the keys on your Hot Key Bar

Character Inventory Screen - You character information (I).

For me, I have 5 backpacks that use 5 Character Inventory Slots. I leave 3 open to put my swappable items.

#1 Open your Character Inventory Screen. You have to clear a Character Inventory Slot, meaning you have to get rid of a backpack. Put it in the bank. This frees up one Character Inventory Slot.

#2 Put your item that you would like to swap into the Character Inventory Slot. So I put my Veil of Lost Hopes into Character Inventory Slot #8.

#3 I left click on Character Inventory Slot #8 until the image of the Veil of Lost Hopes appears on my cursor. Just a couple seconds for this to happen.

#4 I then take my cursor with the image of the Veil of Lost Hopes and left click it onto the Hot Key Bar. This makes a link to the veil from the Character Inventory Slot.

#5 Left click and hold the mask slot on the Character Inventory Screen until the other mask appears on your cursor.

#6 Left click the image of the mask and place it on the Hot Key Bar, put it next to the Hot Key of the Veil. Of course you might be using different items. I am using my mask and veil as examples.

#7 Now when you want to swap an item, all you have to do is left click (don't have to hold it) one mask on the Hot Key Bar and swap it with the other Hot Key Bar.

#8 Mask is now swapped on your character and you never had to open the Inventory Character Screen.

You can do this with as many items as you want. If the item is a right clicky from the Character Inventory Slot all ready, you can just make a link for it the same way.
