How as a Magician to win in PVP
How as a Magician to win in PVP
How can Magician's win in PVP agaisnt say a Ranger or other melee classes
Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
Below level 50 in the old world EQ, mages were pretty good at pvp. But with resists in the game now, it is almost impossible to win. If a ranger snares you and hits trueshot, he can kite you from farther then you can nuke. Even your bolts.
Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
Never fight a ranger in the open, break his LOS. Load up the special DSs + DS potions if he dares to go into melee, else just call it a draw.

Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
Get your resists maxxed out, hope you don't get snared/rooted, use a water pet, and make the melee chase you. If they don't chase you, you should be able to win with pet backstabbing and you nuking (even if most nukes don't hit). If they kill the pet, start chaining.
One last thing that's of incredible value; CoN will work against players in PvP. It"s not 100%, but it will work.

Use earth pet and try to keep ranger rooted. Get your resists up so as to not get snared, but even if you are it's all good. Once rooted, approach just outside of melee distance, but inside archery distance. Make sure you are facing south so as to enable his AoA/BoA to effective miss and go to town with nukes. If you can't root him, make LoS issues your friend.
For non ranged melees, break out your DSs and use water.
For casters use air.

One other thing; don't worry as much about the nukes; cast RS pets frequently.....you'll get more damage out of them, than you will against a player with high resists.
Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
Rangers in pvp are kind of tricky to pvp. If they are a good ranger, they will have Sky bow and wait till it procs to disc double arc you. Don't listen to using water or earth pet(root does not land in pvp), yeah the BS is nice but pets do 1/3 damage in pvp and half the time water pet is not positioned right. Overall go with the air, and /pet no cast. Make sure pet is on ranger at all times, even if it gets snared. This stops them from using their deadfall spell line. if they try to bow you down, just stay close to them so they get the too close message. Eventually they will try to melee you. This is when AAs and gear come into place. Make sure to have improve dodge mod from range, increase dodge 8% from ldon, that wolf familiar from icefall(it adds to dodge), and the fabled ball of clay. As for AAs, you need all the defensive aas maxed out CA, CM, shield block, stone core, shared health. when they are going to melee you, ravenous flames yourself(with regular DS, stormeye from yar'lar, and DS pot from shm), pop stone core + shared health. send in servant pet, force rejuv, another servant pet, and nuke away. This will drop their hp so fast they won't know what happened. Same goes for any other melee class. Rogue... back into a corner, zerker...watch out for thier blind flurry disc, war...get them low and move out the way once they go bezerk, monk...mend a pain but DS eats them up very fast. Oh, you also need to watch for pet hp, if it drops too low replenish pet cuz if it dies so does shared health. Also monk, zerker could have an abashi where you are going to need luck that they dont dispell all your good buffs. And of course have mage DA ring from sky...this can buy you time till your heal pot refreshes.
Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
Really? When did that happen? I'm not on a PvP server, but used to duel a lot in my early days and root used to land just fine. I don't keep up with the PvP updates though. /shrugKlymaxus wrote:Don't listen to using water or earth pet(root does not land in pvp), yeah the BS is nice but pets do 1/3 damage in pvp and half the time water pet is not positioned right.
Re: How as a Magician to win in PVP
These days even group gear offers max resists across the board. Root is very unlikely to land, as are most of our nukes.
