6 Boxing, no mercs, silver membership....
With some of the FTP limitations just lifted (I wish they had raised the AA cap though..) I am going to try my hand at 6 boxing EQ. I just took a break from 6 boxing Vanguard, which is where I just heard about the changes to EQ in OOC chat actually, mostly I am leaving Vanguard because I got tired of falling through the world.
For 6 boxing here, I plan to stay away from mercs, since they would still be limited to apprentice level (I think), although I may subscribe my main account down the road, for now all will remain silver level accounts.
That being said, I will be having a mage pet main tanking, and will be doing the healing myself. Searching the forums, Shamans and Bards seem to be the go-to classes for boxing with mages (usually 3, 4 or 5 mages it seems), right now though I am thinking of a mage/wizard/wizard/cleric/enchanter/ and ?, (though these are the mage forums,only 1 mage in a group may sound like blasphemy). My goal is to have classes that will be effective at their roles with the 1000 AA cap limit. With the exception being the 1 class (In this case the mage, since the pet will be tanking and will want more AA's for that) that will be a gold membership later on.
Also, is it going to end up being a hassle to be contantly trying to heal the Mages pet with a Cleric?

Mage/Mage/bard/shaman/ last two slots pick 2 of the following listed - enchanter / ranger/ mage ( or 2 more mages)

I went with mage/mage/mage/bard/shaman and right now, a druid. I would like to have a character with ports since it makes it a lot easier transporting this group around. So it was a tossup between the druid or a wizard.

In my experience wizard makes a better porter. I don't recall all of the porting AAs druids get, but at 85 wizards get teleport AAs, more translocates, etc. Checkout eqaasearch.org and compare the two.

Mage/enchanter can do anything in the game.
Mage/Mage is an option, since you can camp 2 different named/items at once.
Any mission which actually requires more than that, are usually specifically made NOT to be boxxed, and the mechanics will make it incredibly difficult to box, you'll have to have a friend along anyway, so why bother playing so many chracters

Due to the time involved in pulling mobs, and managing multiple characters, there's really no reason to Play more than 2 characters.

I agree with Cielli here but it all boils down to preferences. Personally I would go mage/bard/druid and you're dead set on a 4th go with a wizzy. The amount of time you have jumping between instances or machines, even with 1 key stroke macro's, you can achieve the same thing with less....and not have to gear up other toons.
Mage/bard is a mighty combo to beat and extremely easy, add a druid for heals and ports = $
Your time though so play how you want to play. Just understand less is sometimes more.
