Caster aggro
Caster aggro
I'm trying to do some research but can not find anything. I seem to recall on the old mage forums that caster aggro (nukes) is a factor of the base nuke amount and obviously the number of times casted (so therefore focus, crits, buffs, glyphs, 7th, bard focus, etc, woould have zero impact on aggro). Am I delusional, and is there any data to back up any viewpoint?
Re: Caster aggro
You are correct. Although I don't have any "data" to back it up (perhaps Mindrix, Koz, or Wire could help there).
I will point out that twincast does count as "double" the base. You are casting the same spell twice, so getting twice as much aggro. It's about the only time I worry about using one of our hate reduction AAs. I mean really, Silent Casting, Vapor Core, Arcane Whisper, along with the regular subtlety AA, can anyone actually say mages need all of those? Over 3k AAs and I still haven't bought vapor core.
But back to the question. With the way mage damage works, our "big boom" spell is really the RS pet, which doesn't give us aggro really. Our normal pet is already there beating up the mob also, and it's very hard for me to pull aggro off of him alone. Our base damage spell isn't really high enough to pull aggro, even with bolt. The only time I've pulled aggro from pet was using AtA nukes and getting the 32k hit on 1st try.
Wizards need those aggro reduction AAs. They can pull out twincast + BIG booms and if they forget to hit silent casting first they can go splat pretty quickly.

Re: Caster aggro
Any data to back this up would be appreciated. Our wizards have been taking a lot of aggro lately, and are convinced how often they crit and how much they crit for is the reason. I'm not sure how one would go about quantifying this?
Re: Caster aggro
Yeah, I'm not sure either. I just know any wizard burn parse usually starts with silent casting for a reason!
Twincast + 2nd spire + glpyhs +7th, etc. etc can hit for 100k+ dmg per cast.
Base dmg of our spell ( Bolt of Molten Scoria Rk. II ) = 5868
Base dmg of wizard big nuke ( Ethereal Combustion Rk. II ) = 11875
