Resists and Buffs
I've always wanted to know the answer to a few resist based questions...
Number one if you have 700 on all your resists and since that is where we are capped at... and looking at someone's magelo the actual resists totals from gear might be in some cases close to 1000 etc. If that person gets hit with a massive AE during say a raid.. does it go off the 1000 hidden total or does it automatically go off the 700? In other words say I get hit with a -200 magic on raid. I have 980 magic resist based on my gear but it's capped at 700, would I be at 500 or would the 700 never move?
Second... in the same scenario with again 700 capped but say 980 magic from gear from the Magelo read, if I get a magic resist buff like GOD, which again does not affect my 700 capped magic resist... does that GOD buff do ANYTHING for me if I get hit with a -200 magic AE. Do the buffs "buffer" anything? Also would the buffs do anything over cap to spells/ae's etc, that have a resist check?

Re: Resists and Buffs
By definition, a cap is something you can't exceed...period. The cap is not a "display cap" rather it is an actual cap. That 700 number is what is always going to be calculated until they change it. So, if you are at 700, resist buffs are worthless to you.
Re: Resists and Buffs
Just out of habit I always put up my buffs. Elemental barrier and my arcanum clicky. I'll have to test the theory above and let you know.
Re: Resists and Buffs
My buffs are all maxxed at 700, but my actual stat number would be much higher than 700, if the actual amount was calculated. I can get malo'ed or tashed, and still have my effective resists at 700.
Re: Resists and Buffs
Right, because you lost some of your total available to you. You still have a resist of 700 but not more. It's just like mana regen. You could have 100+ mana regen on your gear but you are still only gonna get what the cap is. You have an available pool to draw from if you are overcap. If you are overcap, remove a mana regen item and see if you magically go below the regen cap. It helps to have that available pool because then you can equip detrimental ps's or get malo'd and tash'd and not sweat being hit with a spell that you would normally resist.dorfillya wrote:My buffs are all maxxed at 700, but my actual stat number would be much higher than 700, if the actual amount was calculated. Re: Resists and Buffs
A little clarification might help here, is the question:
A) You have 1000MR, capped at 700, and are hit by an AE with a -200 MR check.
or
B) You have 1000MR, capped at 700, and are hit by an AE with a -200 MR debuff.
I think the answer to A is it would check at 500.
I think the answer to B is you would stay at 700.
C) If you are at 720 total worn MR, get hit by an -100 MR debuff, and have GoD up, that would keep you at 700 I think.
I "think" ... correct me if I'm wrong.

b. you are correct
Basically, the amount over your resist cap is wasted until a mob hits you with a debuff. After that debuff, any amount you have over the cap will come into play.
Re: Resists and Buffs
Why, for the love of god, do people whom aren't raiders worry about resists and stats (non-heroic) when they don't even have the AA's to max them out?! And even if they did, who cares :p
Re: Resists and Buffs
My baby sk worries about resists. He can currently tank and dps mobs down to kill them in RSS for the flameshield stone augments. He however is having significant difficulty getting the flameshield augs due to those dam mobs charm like s.o.b.'s. My sk's resists are very respectable; nearly maxed for his level without buffs; easily capped with buffs.pandax wrote:Why, for the love of god, do people whom aren't raiders worry about resists and stats (non-heroic) when they don't even have the AA's to max them out?! This is why some of us non-raiders worry about resists.
Edit to add: Some of us have to have our e-peen compensate for other deficiencies.
Re: Resists and Buffs
Since when do you need to be a raider to get 700 to all resists?pandax wrote:Why, for the love of god, do people whom aren't raiders worry about resists and stats (non-heroic) when they don't even have the AA's to max them out?! And even if they did, who cares :p
