That would work out well if we weren't going in 10 diff directions, even elidroth is saying we need to get on a common page. Telling us to just come up with stuff without a common direction isn't going to get us very far.

Well when your done complaining about the lack of direction, let everyone know so we can get working on posting our suggestions for increasing our non-pet dps for raiding mages. Oh wait, we dont have to wait for you to stop complaining, we can just do it anyway. never mind, keep complaining, there may be a mage or two who still had failed to understand your point.

Sigh. Your just not worth the time. I'll toss my feedback to one of the other mages, this is getting nowhere.

In my opinion, if you look across the multiple threads on what mages need/want going back to before the HoT expansion you will find all the ideas for burst, sustained, pets, and whatever other magely need there is. Rehashing those over and over isn't going to change it any... Just pull the ideas together out of those disparate threads, vote if need be, and lets get on with it.

We are asking for burst DPS, which means it is a limited time effort to dump as much mana into DPS in as short a time as possible to burn down a mob. That will not be your normal DPS, it will not be something you can do long at all. It is short term. Over all the pet should still do the same DPS it does now, but not in a burn situation.
Calebe
I understand people are worried the pet will stagnate and why that is and, as Calebe pointed out, no one wants that. Pets are a part of our dps, our grouping, our soloing, they are our defenders, and they are what make us mages. A raid mage allowing a pet to stagnate would be akin to allowing a spell line to stagnate. No one wants to be a wizard, either. Wizards are pure burst and pure dps. We want to be just below the wizards at burst and just behind the necros at sustained while also having pets that can tank. The problem is, we aren't doing the burst thing; it's so bad, we just flat out aren't bursting. That is the only pressing issue at the moment. We are thinking, "how do we make what we do now stronger in about 2 minutes?" That 2 minutes isn't going to result in the nerfing of anything else that a mage can do.
Can we get some burst dps through the pet? Sure. Is it the best way? No. Is it the most magely? Yes. Did the devs say they'd be willing to do that? No, in fact, they said they would NOT do that. If they aren't going to make pets burst then that leaves ONLY the spell avenue regardless of whether any of us like it or not. Devs have the ultimate say whether any of us like it or not. Sony owns EQ and they'll run it as they see fit, even if it runs 100% of the mages out of the game. All of us could beat down Sony HQ's doors with torches and pitchforks and threatening curses on their families for thousands of generations if they don't make burst happen through pets but they still won't do it if that's not what they want to do.
Anyone who thinks asking for spell dps or mage dps increases overall is going to screw over pets are wrong. Those of us who were parsing pets and trying to get them
boosted during beta were also looking at spells and participating in those discussions to get those boosted as well. No one, at any time in either UF or the HoT betas I participated in ever once asked for a pet nerf, rather they asked for boosts. Anyone freaking out over pets should now be able to relax. We will keep pushing for their boosts and for their usefulness.
