Backstab from the Front?

Ok, so Ive been neglecting my mage for a bit now, but I was skilling up in the Arena and had my water pet on my alts face beating the &^%@# out of her (mercs FTW). I was watching the hits scroll by and noticed the water pet was backstabbing from the front. This surprised the heck out of me and wanted to know if this was particular to the Arena or did water pets get an any direction backstab somewhere along the line. Ty for taking the time to answer, Im hoping I wont have to mash my Companions Relocation key so much if this is true for all mobs.

Yes, they've been doing it since the release of UF, I suspect it's some broken code related to a few UF named that got the ability also (intentionally). Regular rogue trash (any level/zone) will also frontal backstab if they have a weapon equipped (doesn't matter what kind), and pets will do it even without a weapon. You should still mash that petpunt key though, you gain about the same dps from a well positioned pet as you do from a backstabbing pet.
