Plan of action required:

Post by Deq »

Hi again,

Well, you know how EQ tends to grab you by the short and curlies, some how I'm now boxing three characters, my happy little party being a 70 enc, 69 magi and 69 nec :) It's a rather nice combo. I've been doing a fair bit in WoS for spells, and that's what leads me to this post. I've been reading up trying to get a grip of where spells come from from sort of 68 onwards. I still need a bunch of 69 and 70 ones mainly, then all the 71-85 ones. Is there a handy chart somewhere that explains what I have to do? I assume all spells are one groupable with the exception of the rank III and ancients and I assume some of the GoD spells? Really I guess to keep it simple, what should be my strat, zones/instances/etc for say 68-75 spells? I can't even work out how many expansions that covers :/

Thanks again :)

RSS probably for 69/70 runes, although it's been so long I can't really remember... I think illsalin would be another option. Your best bet though, would be the bazaar or a friendly researcher, as all spells up to and including 75 are researchable, excluding ancients/rk3's and the odd quest spells (LoY).

The important ones for 69-75 would be:

Mage:
OoW = Elemental Fury. (this is a 69 rune).
DoD = Fickle Fire, Raging Servant. (these are locked behind quests, or reseachable)
PoR = Iceflame Guard, Rathe's Strength. (these are locked behind quests, or reseachable)
TSS = Bolt, DS, Fickle Inferno, Muzzle, Pets. (You can buy most rk1's off of vendor, rk2 + muzzle is dropped, and the rk2 + muzzle are also researchable).
TBS = Burnout, Iceflame Body, Annihilate the Unnatural, Rampaging Servant. (these are locked behind faction, rk1 is pirates and rk2 is katta, or researchable).

Nec:
OoW = Pyre of Mori. (69 rune)
DoD = Dread Pyre. (see above, etc etc)
PoR = Mind Flay, Grave Pact.
TSS = The usual suspects, pet haste, dots, pet, lich etc.
TBS = Pyre of the Fallen, Kedgefish Venom.

Enc: Don't ask me, mine just cast haste/crack on me and never venture out of the lobby. Oh wait, you can add those two, haste and crack.

As far as leveling up and getting spells while you xp, hmm. Katta to ally is a long grind, and you'll want both the spells at ally (RmS and Kedgefish), personally I would probably just get to amiable and stop there, buying the rest. TSS stuff is pretty common and should be widely available in baz, as the hotzones have been skipping across that expansion for a while now. PoR and DoD you'll definitely want to have someone research for you, unless you enjoy hard quests (especially at ~70). OoW just hit up RSS or MPG?

As far as the 69/70 runes go, and depending on how comfortable you are with the necro, try following this guide for Battlemaster Denik in MPG from necrotalk.com: http://www.necrotalk.com/showthread.php?t=6220

I did this as a solo necro (66-68) with around 350aa but could've done it with less. It'll probably take a few deaths to get used to kiting in the small area but once you successfully pull Denik or his ph from the room it gets very easy very fast. Just run your mage/enc there ahead of the necro and drag the corpses when they run into see invis.

In the 2nd picture of the guide, the see invis in the bottom left always saw me so that's the only place where I'd have to run around the corner to fd him off (and let the bots die). I'm not sure if the author mentions the safe spot or not, but you can park alts just outside the door to Denik's room and the roamer in the hall will not agro them. When it comes time to pull Denik/ph, simply camp out the bots then log them back in to loot the runes (or merc rez the corpses).

I think I spent a few days there off and on getting runes for the necro and an alt and only ever saw 1 other person in the zone back on Combine about a year ago. The xp wasn't great compared to nobles' murks, but once I got used to the area I would usually pull the named/ph, roamer in the hall outside his room, the 2 blue stars and 1-2 of the see invis if I had time before respawns. Once I had the named/ph and the roamer outside his room down, I'd usually kite the roaming star near where its pictured then kite the others around there as well.

As far as the necro spells go, I'd strongly recommend finding a researcher for Dread Pyre and Corath Venom. I can't begin to explain how powerful they are at that level and up to 75.

Most of the 71 - 85 spells are vendor buyable (at least the Rank 1). Most rank 2's are drops from regular mobs in the appropriate zones. Rank 3's are raid runes.

Note that a few of the above are spells you have to actually faction to get.

the 69/70 spell runes drop from named mobs, most commonly found in MPG and RSS.

As someone already mentioned, you can probably have someone make you a lot of them if you have the pp to spare.

Allakhazam is a good place to start.
