Kinda Lost...& Discouraged

Post by fordse »

Hi,

I have my 67 MAG, as well as a BST and NEC who are now both in their 60s. I've come back after being away a while (I have all but the latest expansions), and it seems like the only way to get ALL my 60s spells is by completing the Omens quest(s) -- I can't find a single one in the Bazaar. Is this true?

If so, is this a fairly straightforward thing; or, is this a 'round the world, endless grind depending mostly on luck?

On a side note, I've seen a lot of talk about pet focus items. What exactly are those, if they're not the armor, weapons, and other gear we ourselves summon?

Thank you in advance for any help!!

The 61 to 65 spells are POP. You can either loot;
Ethereal Parchments will yield you 61-62nd level spells.
Spectral Parchments will yield you 63-64th level spells.
Glyphed Rune Words will yield you 65th level spells.

Or check Bazaar for the spells.

The 66 to 70 spells are OOW. You can either loot or buy;
Minor Muramite Rune - Level 66
Lesser Muramite Rune - Level 67
Muramite Rune - Level 68
or
Minor Shadowspine Rune = Level 66 spell
Lesser Shadowspine Rune = Level 67 spell
Shadowspine Rune = Level 68 spell
(these are tradeable so you can buy)

For the 69-70 those are no drop so you have to loot em.

Greater Muramite Rune - Level 69
Glowing Muramite Rune - Level 70 Normals
Ancient Muramite Rune - Level 70 Ancients
Or
Greater Shadowspine Rune = Level 69 spell
Glowing Shadowspine Rune = Level 70 spell
Ancient Shadowspine Rune = Ancient level 70 spell

As far as difficulty, its a simple loot and hand in to the proper NPC to get the spell.

Or in all cases, you can research them.

You can also create all the spells (except ancients or rank 3's) using the research tradeskill. If you aren't in to tradeskilling, I'm sure there are lots of folks on your server who could make those spells. Send a tell to the baz mules you see with lots of spells for sale and one of them is bound to be a tradeskiller. To keep costs down, come bearing parchments! (look up the recipes to see which are needed)

A pet focus makes your pets tougher and hit harder. It affects both your main pet as well as your temp pets like Host of Elements. You need to be wearing it at the time you summon the pet for it to work. A definite must-have for all your pet classes. They are found in various levels of strength on armor and on augments. There is a vender in PoK (name escapes me) who has at least one pet focus item for sale for plat, but there are lots of places you can get them from mob drops or for alt currencies from doing tasks or unlocked from certain raids. I think this post has most of what you need to know:

Ohhhh, ok. I actually have a shovel that I got a long time ago that has an effect on some summoned earth pets; and, my NEC has/had the Drowned Man's Hair. I never really knew if they made much of a difference -- probably because I wasn't high enough level for it to. (Sadly, I think I sold 'em both. :( )

One question that still seems to go back and forth: when it says Max/Min level, is it referring to caster, spell, or pet?

I got an ethereal just this week doing the Brick of Knowledge quest for my cleric...scourge hobgoblin dropped it.

Max/Min level for the focus is the level of the spell used to summon the pet. Look in the library forum for all sorts of things on pet focus and mage play and gear and so on...

Also if you examine the unrefined scrolls (dirty runic scroll, etc) it will say the level of the spell it creates. Keep in mind a few of our spells other classes get, so for those spells it will be the lowest level that any class gets it. I know druids also get our anti-summoned line and for a long time they get them before us. Shammies also get our malo line and again, for a while they get them before us. That might not be the case anymore though. It might have changed when they distributed our spells out every level rather than ever 4 for int casters and every 5 for wis casters.

You can farm those scrolls off caster type mobs of the corresponding level to the spell your looking for. If you want some of those scrolls to take to a friendly researcher, go kill casters.

Farming mobs for the specific scrolls you need may take quite a while since they are global drops. Might be better off trying to buy them in the baz. If you are low on funds, farm stuff like treant branches, horse hooves or spiderling silks. Take those and all the tailoring/smithing drops you get (fine silks/animal pelts or cobalt ore and above sell best) and sell them in the bazaar. Tradeskill fodder for recipes over 300 skill always sell well, but especially right now since there is a new tradeskill quest in UF that requires 300 skill in all tradeskills.

Aye, Sven's right. That's a great spot. A great zone, for that matter, for those.
