Pets and Gear
Pets and Gear
Hello all,
I'm a returning EQ player. Started a mage on the new server. I'm at 63 now, and I remember a while back that it was said mage pets are summoned equipped with gear. My question is, at what level pet does this begin to happen, and does this include the hit-point belt and the haste mask?
Thanks in advance,
Erazmus

Cool, thanks. I read over several threads. I totally missed it.
Re: Pets and Gear
I heard a rumor that mage pets were armored when initially summoned and thought I had confirmed this last night when I found this web site.
However, with reading this post and the one linked in it last night, I go to TBS, the current hot zone and the only thing I summon are a set of ice weapons. Pet died a lot quicker, and I actually had to gate so I wouldn't die when two mobs killed him quickly. Last night and before that time when I would summone the entire armor set, I wouldn't have those problems, pet would hold up fine to two mobs beating on him with me healing of course. So, did SoE screw something up again and make it so our pets are not summoned with armor now? I did a small very un-scientific test after gating.
1st test: Pulled a Dark Blue spawn and @ 50% of the mobs health, my pet was at 34% health.
Level 76 Air Pet w/Spire Servant pet focus
Level 76 summoned Ice Piercers only.
Buffs: Tenacity Rk. II, Burnout VII, Iceflame Body, Rathe's Strength, Lavaskin
Sent pet in after pulling the mob with Malosinatia.
@ 50% of mobs health, my pet was at 35% health.
2nd test: Pulled the same Dark Blue spawn point and @ 50% of the mobs health, my pet was at 59% health. Let the mob die without healing my pet.
Level 76 Air Pet w/Spire Servant pet focus
Level 76 summoned Ice Piercers.
Level 76 summoned Plate of the Prime (only 1 wrist)
Level 76 summoned Nastel's Herilooms
Level 71 summoned Muzzle of Mowcha
Level 11 summoned Elemental Defender
Buffs: Tenacity Rk. II, Burnout VII, Iceflame Body, Rathe's Strength, Lavaskin
Sent pet in after pulling the mob with Malosinatia.
3rd test: Pulled the same Dark Blue spawn point and @ 50% of the mobs health, my pet was at 65% health. Let the mob die without healing my pet.

Re: Pets and Gear
Oh... I am a level 76 Mage btw with all pet defensives and offensived except the pet fortitude line up to level 71, but I'm not sure that info would be relevant really since all tests were tested with the same focused and aa'd pet.
Re: Pets and Gear
Pet is summoned with armor, but not with jewelry, so that would make a difference. Also I don't believe it's summoned with the muzzle (someone correct me if I'm wrong). My understanding is it's ONLY summoned with the armor and a focus cloak, depending on which pet focus you have. Example cloak (probably for spire servant):

A quick test you can do is summon your pet and hit it with elemental siphon. It will hit for less than the full amount due to the innate armor and focus cloak spell shielding. Also note what % your pets health drops to immediately after casting. Then summon some armor and give it to your pet (I'm assuming Plate of the Elements here) and cast siphon again after he's back to full health. The damage done and percent health after should be the same if your pet already has armor, and will change if he didn't due to the 2% spell shielding on the belt and the ~1K HP increase from the belt/armor.
As far as your test go, I'd try again without Iceflame and without proc weapons. Your pet will obviously struggle more, but it's hard to get an accurate read of how well your pet is tanking when you have procs in the mix, especially iceflame since every proc will save your pet quite a few HP. And 3 mobs is really far too small of a sample to read anything into it. Try at least 10 of each, which statistically is still pretty weak, but should still give a better indication. I'm 76 with spire servant as well, so I might do some tests of my own to help out (if I can tear myself away from Borderlands long enough).
