Question on RS Pet aggro:

Post by Maneki Neko »

hey guys :) If an RS pet is cast on a mob, and something else aggros after RS pet is already engaged in the mob it was cast on, is it possible for the RS pet mob to be pulled away and fight the new source of aggro? My understanding, and what I've seen, is that they will attack the mob they are casted on and stay on it till it dies, then go fight other mobs that aggro afterwords. Am I mistaken?

I have seen situations where i casted on a mob while being hit on by another, RS would pop and attack not the one it was casted on but the one attacking me. But i have never seen it drop the mob it was attacking to switch, unless the mob it was attacking died of course.

I've seen it switch, not often but it does happen.

If RS is not the MT and therefore not being hit by the mob it was cast on, it sort of behaves like an unfocused pet.
It will protect the caster, so if another mob hits the mage or an AOE hits the mage or RS, the RS pet will switch mobs, then switch back if the add is mezzed or dies or the 1st mob somehow gets back on top of it's agro list.

So again RS is basically like our pets were before /pet focus came in the game.
AA pets do the same thing.

What Sued said was correct. You really dont see this in the group game, but you can really test it in the raid game. Anytime you get hit with an AE of some kind by a mob other then the mob u casted RS on it will more then likely engage the mob that AEd you. A lot of times on raids mages get bitched at for this reason when our RS pet jumps on a kited mob or something of that nature.

Also if you are fighting multiple mobs at once, RS will and often switches to finish off a mob at low health before returning to it's primary target.

Yes I know it can occasionally cause problems on raids. I have seen servants switch mobs on the Mindshear Avatar event when another one of the mobs casts an AE.

I had this happen just the other day. Was clearing respawns in a camp as they popped, and one popped and assisted his friend as my pets as they were being him. The new mob went after my RS, and my RS turned around and started beating on the add instead of what I sent him after.

FYI, think of it this way: rs acts just like a mob if you were also a mob. RS can have aggro put on it just like a regular mob can. AFAIK the mechanics are the same.
